I authored a 20-page literature review on how to reduce water waste through a novel toilet system under the mentorship of Ms. Tara Love, Ph.D. Candidate, Chemical Engineering, Cambridge University. I compared the chemical processes catalyzed by certain design mechanisms, efficiency, resulting waste products, cost, and hygiene levels of existing toilet systems. This research helped me develop a CAD design of a novel toilet system, in which the containment chamber stores excreted waste until it reaches a certain threshold, after which water from the flush water supply transfers that waste into the central sewage pipe. This reduces the amount of water wasted by about 30% per day.
